Updated: Jun 24, 2020

Miycreations Project article and photographs by  Madeleine M Langlois, MaddyLane Designs

Transform your old jewelry boxes into a new treasures.

Materials & tools:

• A jewelry box of your choice (or any box you want to paint)

• Sand-paper and tack cloth

• Sponge brushes and regular brush

• Newspapers or a plastic sheet

• Small paint tray ( I use pieces of foil paper or a small glass)

• Acrylic paints, whatever kind you have around your home.

I used acrylic paints I had by Pébéo in a light mauve (or you can order them online, but ask your local paint store first)

• Acrylic binder by Pébéo Studio Acrylics, iridescent purple (for an iridescent finish over the light mauve paint colour)

• Iridescent Silver paint, by Pébéo Studio Acrylics, for the drawers

• Clear gloss (or matt) protective finish

(Materials for this project are available at arts, craft stores and above mention stores. Shop local.)

This is for you Dads, a project you can do at home with your kids so they can make Mom a lovely Mothers gift made with love. It’s also a project that moms can do together with their daughters.

First find an old jewelry box, or a box of your choice. Sand it and wipe with a cloth. Paint it with one or several colours using acrylic paints. Let it dry, acrylic paints take 20 to 30 minutes to dry. One dry the kids can top coat the box with a glitter or iridescence paint to add shimmer and glam. Let dry.

Once dry you can than embellish the boxes with whatever supplies you have around the house ranging from ribbons, bows, mosaic, beads, old jewelry pieces, or paint or stencil designs on it like, flowers, butterflies or write words or a poem. It’s all up to you imagination and what you can find around you home.

Variations: if you have a jewelry box with knobs you can change them with nicer stylish knobs or small handles. You can even use family photos, or tissue paper with designs to Modge Podge around the jewelry box. You can also use the same process as above to decorate various other items around your home, such as toy boxes, shelves, baskets. Get creative with things you already have, revamp, recycle, upcycle in order to recreate new treasures.
